This quote stands strong in what I will soon face in my next steps of becoming an adult. It will be a journey that may open many doors that lead to bright futures and possible new beginnings. I now prepare, to some it is called the next step in life, which is college. I will be studying at Merrimack College in Boston. Yes that is correct - I will be far away which means that this is my last Sunday (8/13/2017) altar serving here.
I have been altar serving since 2004 and have attended every Sunday Mass on the dot. Rain, snow, thunder or even just a plain clear Sunday, I have always been here. I have always been encouraged by my family to keep altar serving because that is what keeps a family together. That is what keeps me and all of us together. A whole community that shares the same beliefs. This Church is where I have truly grown as a man. Many have seen me grow up ever since I was just a little boy here at Christ the King and have also witnessed the struggles that I had gone through. One day, I’m a small boy, heading down to the children’s liturgy just below us... to making a marvelous return to altar serving after months of battling cancer... to finally standing here in front of all of you, giving my first and last speech here.
I am truly blessed to be surrounded by so many faithful and positive people. As I stand here, I would like to thank everyone for their generous support and best wishes. A few months ago I was helping a girl out with a school project. She asked me, “what makes a human being special?”. My answer to her was how the brain can recall memories. Each memory that you make, or I make, have a special meaning, which is why we remember them - and this is going to be one of the most memorable moments of my life.
Finally, I would like to thank Father Star, Father Sebastian, Father Lee, Father Coffey and all the parishioners who have been with me on this journey, and say thank you for the support you have given me. My faith in Christ will forever be with me, for I would not have been here without this beautiful life. Thank you.
